ABOUT
Institute for Studies in Industrial Development in Institutional Area Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, India and was established by Indian Council of Social Science Research. The centre was established in 1987. Registration of ISID was done under the Societies Registration Act 1860. On October 7, 1986, to handle, develop and organize research in the field of industrial development with special significance on the problems of India and its association with other countries of the world. This centre is governed by Indian Council of Social Science Research. The academic activities of the Institute are projected under the following broad themes like Industrialization; Internationalization; Corporate Sector; Labour and Employment; Public Health and Media & Communication.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
The research programme was born out of the principles of organized development, which sought to attain high growth, self-reliance, stabilized national development and social justice. However, the major modification of India’s economic policy environment has gone through changes within a few years of setting up of the Institute which affects a number of institutions and instruments. The Institute rapidly reoriented its research programme to accommodate the matters that came into sharp notice in the new regime. Keeping in eye the changed economic policy environment, it was felt that there is need to further broaden the ambit of the research programme to encompass select contemporary appropriate issues. The academic schemes of the Institute are organized under the following broad themes:
1) Industrialization
MSMEs, Industrial clusters/corridors, SEZ, Regional development, Industrial policy, etc.
2) Internationalization
FDI, technology transfer, IPRs, trade and investment agreements, etc.
3) Corporate Sector
Financial institutions, Ownership and control, Public enterprises, Public-private partnership, etc.
4) Labour and Employment
Employment growth and structural transformation, informal sector and un-organised workers, etc.
5) Public Health
Medical devices and healthcare sectors, structure of health systems, IPRs and other areas of industry-health interface, etc.
6) Media & Communication
Studies in the area of media, communication and advertising.
