ABOUT

Defence Research and Development Organisation in DRDO Bhawan, Rajaji Marg, New Delhi, India and was established by Ministry of Defence, Govt of India. The centre was established in 1958. This institute was formed with the combination of already functioning Technical Development Establishment (TDEs) of the Indian Army and the Directorate of Technical Development & Production (DTDP) with the Defence Science Organisation (DSO). This centre is governed by Ministry of Defence. Now, DRDO is continuously working with more than 50 laboratories which are deeply engaged in defence technologies like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, combat vehicles, engineering systems, instrumentation, missiles, etc.

MISSION AND VISION

The DRDO vision is for empowering the country with state-of-the-art indigenous Defence technologies and systems.

Mission is

  • To draft, evolve and guide to production state-of-the-art sensors, weapon systems, platforms and allied equipment for nation Defence Services.
  • To provide scientifical solutions to the Services to advance combat effectiveness and to encourage well-being of the troops.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

1) Aeronautics Research & Development Board

Aeronautics Research & Development Board vision to make nation strong via technology and by building world class cutting edge aeronautical science and technology base. This will help in developing our Defence, Space and Civil Aviation sectors internationally competitive systems and solutions.

Aeronautics Research Development Board mission is to motivate and fund basic and applied research in pertinent scientific training directly relevant to nation aeronautical systems needed for future by enabling and bracing emerging talents, particularly in academic and research institutions to produce and develop a potential knowledge-base system applicable to future aeronautics needs of the country.

2) Armaments Research Board

Armaments Research Board vision is to expand the scientific community in nation in the field of armament technology harnessing and nourishing the talent from different academic and research organisations. This is to increase the expertise and technology in the armaments field and having direct application to ongoing research projects with DRDO.

Armaments Research Board mission is to meet the future challenges in the armaments field by developing the intellectual level, physical infrastructure and scientific understanding.

3) Life Sciences Research Board

Life Sciences Research Board vision is to meet the country needs of Defence Service by expanding and deepening the knowledge of research talents of nation in the area of life science. This can be done with proper nurturing of youth.

Life Sciences Research Board mission is to catalyse the needed cross-fertilization of plans and experiences between scientific community in technical areas to provide the needed help to soldier in operations and the knowledge for integrating “human factors” to improve his combat effectiveness.

4) Naval Research Board

Naval Research Board vision is to provide needed help for the future needs of the Navy Security of Country by providing an organisation with the world class academic research in science & technology.

Naval Research Board mission is to inspire and fund basic and applied research in pertinent scientific field of board relevance to our future Navy by validating and supporting upcoming talent, most particularly in academic institutions, to generate & spread a knowledge-base potentially applicable to the Navy.
